General description of the collection: The Samuel B.M. Young photograph collection is significant not only for Young's personal career, but for the history of the U.S. Army for the last half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. There are photos covering Young's entire career, numerous portrait photos, as well as photos of his various activities and commands in the field; family photos, even two with his adopted Indian daughter. Numerous portrait photos of his contemporaries during the Civil War and Indian wars. There is a significant photo of the first Army War College (AWC) Board. is is a very important collection.
